We owe special thanks to the more than 60 volunteers (a group of whom are pictured here) who have been with us since the Aquarium opened five years ago.
The South Carolina Aquarium Volunteer Program is comprised of a group of over 350 diverse, enthusiastic individuals. There are many different positions for which to volunteer, whether you like to work with the public, behind the scenes or in the office.

Step 2: Attend volunteer orientation.
At orientation, we'll introduce you to the Aquarium, share job descriptions, provide basic training and take you on a tour of the Aquarium. You'll also get an opportunity to ask questions of available staff.

Step 3: A few weeks after orientation, someone will contact you regarding a phone interview or to schedule your first shift.

SPLASH...Students & Parents, Learning, Assisting, Serving & Helping SPLASH program

SPLASH volunteer programThe South Carolina Aquarium is pleased to announce a wonderful volunteer opportunity for teenagers ages 13, 14 and 15. Teenagers and their parents are invited to apply to this program working as Exhibit Guides in the Education Department.

Exhibit Guides work in the galleries and the Touch Tank interpreting our exhibits for our visitors.  These volunteers convey the theme of the Aquarium with special emphasis on education and conservation. 

Shifts Available:
Mon-Fri 8:30am-1:00pm 12:30pm-5:00pm  
Saturday 9:00am-12:00pm 11:30am-2:30pm 2:00pm-5:00pm
Sunday 11:30am-2: 30pm 2:00pm-5:00pm  

~ Every interested teen must submit a typed one-page essay expressing why he or she and their parent would make a great volunteer team at the Aquarium. Essays are due by September 26, 2008 and should be sent to volunteer@scaquarium.org or mailed to:

~ Each teen also must provide a reference (a non-relative) with a daytime phone number (Examples are: a teacher, scout leader, coach or pastor).
~ All teams selected for further consideration will be contacted for a personal interview.  Interviews will be scheduled the week of October 13, 2008.
~ Teams accepted into the program will be invited to begin volunteering in November 2008.
