Toddler Time

Where: South Carolina Aquarium
Join us before we open our doors for a special morning just for toddlers and their parents! Our 1-2 year old friends will enjoy up-close animal encounters, dance to fun music, read a story and take advantage of engaging play stations. Breakfast refreshments, coffee and snacks for the kids will be available .

Tickets are $6 member child, $12 non-member child; Adults are free with a participating child. Space is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a space, call (843) 577-FISH (3474).

Camp IN at Camp Carolina — A Family Sleepover!

Where: South Carolina Aquarium
Stay cool and bug-free at Camp Carolina, where the great outdoors comes inside at the South Carolina Aquarium! Bring your sleeping bag, but leave the tents at home for this fun family sleepover. Spend an evening discovering the adventure and fun of Camp Carolina. Families can set up sleeping bags next to their favorite Aquarium exhibit and rise to a dolphin watch on the Riverside Terrace. Event includes fun educational programs just for kids, snacks and a continental breakfast in the morning.

The cost is $30 member adult, $40 non-member adult and $20 member child, $30 non-member child, ages 6 and up. The Aquarium requires one adult per two children attending this event. For more information call (843)577-FISH.

Camp Carolina Members Only Night

Join the South Carolina Aquarium for a Member-only sneak peek at the new major exhibit, Camp Carolina. Explore the wilderness of the mountains in a whole new way – Barn owls, skunks, freshwater fish, snakes and even a bald eagle will be on hand for this adventure in nature. Celebrate the opening of this exciting exhibit with cool nature crafts, enjoy lively music and festivities and sample your creativity at the “Design your own S’more Station”. Packed with fun for the whole family and plenty of exciting interactive activities for the kids, this is one camping trip you don’t want to miss! You’ll want to come back for S’MORE!

Volunteer Orientation

Where: South Carolina Aquarium
On Saturday, September 6, the South Carolina Aquarium will conduct a volunteer orientation from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From divers to Aquarium mascots, the South Carolina Aquarium's Volunteer Program is comprised of hundreds of diverse, enthusiastic individuals who serve in a variety of positions and departments. Volunteers have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of visitors each day, reach into the discovery tank, assist visitors or serve as an Aquarium Ambassador at community events. Enthusiastic youth volunteers, ages 16 and older, interested in marine biology can volunteer as exhibit guides. These youth volunteers have the opportunity to work in the discovery lab and at interpretive carts.

Fifth Annual Sustainable Seafood Festival
Sunday, October 26, 2008 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Where: Charleston Maritime Center
Celebrate fresh, local seafood as you sample creations from the area’s best chefs at this free outdoor event with fun for the whole family. Rate the offerings of more than a dozen of Charleston’s finest chefs as they compete in sustainable seafood cook-off competitions and share their skills in free cooking demonstrations. Enjoy beers and wines, buy fresh shrimp right off the boat and learn how our seafood choices today can ensure fish for the future. This family friendly harbor side event features children’s activities, live music and much more. Catch the excitement of the fifth-annual High School Recipe Contest as student finalists from throughout the state face off to prepare their original dishes for a judging panel of culinary experts. The top three juniors and seniors will be offered scholarships of up to $12,000 to Johnson & Wales University.
