Our Program

Sustainable seafood refers to fish that are caught or farmed with consideration for the long-term viability of the species and for the ecological balance of the ocean. Awareness of the oceans and their importance to humans is increasing, but we continue to overfish certain species (removing too many fish from the water). We can choose seafood from local, sustainably managed fisheries to minimize our impact on the environment.

Overfishing Hurts More Than Fish

When a species is overfished it cannot replace individuals as quickly as we remove them and the population shrinks. Depleted fisheries become less profitable and that impacts fishermen and local economies. The Sustainable Seafood Initiative encourages partner restaurants to serve local, seasonal seafood. Dine with our Sustainable Seafood Restaurant Partners

Listed restaurants have committed to serve sustainable seafood whenever possible. Our Platinum and Gold Partners have gone above and beyond our requirements. Each product is given a sustainability score on a scale of zero to five, which is then averaged to yield an overall menu score. Restaurants whose menus score between 3.5 and 4 are upgraded to Gold Partners, and those who score a four or above are upgraded to Platinum Partners.
