Focus Question
The mountains are high, the coast is low, so which way do you think the water will flow?

Activity Synopsis

  1. Using newspaper and aluminum foil, students will create a model of a topographic landscape. Water will be sprayed on the model to observe the effect of topography on the shapes and sizes of drainage basins and watersheds.
  2. Using newspaper and aluminum foil, students will create a model of the South Carolina landscape that simulates the topography, regions, flow of water and major watersheds found in the state.

Time Frame
One to two class periods.
