Other Materials
Give students the coloring
pages of the habitats and the animals, and have them color them in. Then have
them cut the animals out and glue them in their correct habitat(s).

Mountain stream: Brook trout, river otter
Piedmont river: Largemouth bass, river otter
Blackwater swamp: Largemouth bass, river otter, American alligator, great egret
Salt marsh: Spartina grass, gag grouper (juvenile), great egret, river otter
Ocean: Gag grouper, lemon shark

Extensions
English Extension
Have each student choose an animal found in South Carolina. Each student will
write a couple sentences about the animal and its habitat and draw a picture.
All the students’ pages will be bound together to make a classroom book on animals
and habitats of South Carolina.
Social Studies Extension
Have students look at a physical map of South Carolina to determine what
region they live in. What habitats are near them? What animals can be found
in these habitats? How have people changed or used these habitats?
