March 16- Wild Carolina: The Art of Scott Penegar

Experience wildlife from a new vantage point as you view the inspired works of renowned local artist Scott Penegar. Influenced by his passion for the sea, Penegar captures moments in nature through his detailed sculpture and bronze casting art. As a fisherman, former exhibit designer for the North Carolina Aquarium and avid traveler who has sailed across the Atlantic Ocean twice, Penegar presents a unique and intimate perspective of nature. May 5- Lowcountry Giving Day

Amplify your donation to the Aquarium this year! Mark your calendar and donate online on Tuesday, May 5 to see your gift and impact multiplied. On Lowcountry Giving Day, gifts of $25 or more to the South Carolina Aquarium will be multiplied by the Coastal Community Foundation. May 7- Shark Shallows Daytime Preview: a Members-only Event

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Be one of the first to experience sharks at your fingertips! Explore Shark Shallows – an impressive 20,000-gallon touch tank for sharks and rays where you can reach out and touch the animals. Reservations are not required.

May 7- Shark Shallows Opening Celebration: a Members-only Event

6:30 – 8 p.m.
Join us for an exclusive event to celebrate the premiere of the largest addition to the Aquarium experience since we opened! Explore Shark Shallows – an impressive 20,000-gallon touch tank for sharks and rays where you can reach out and touch the animals. Light refreshments will be served. May 9- Shark Shallows Grand Opening

Come fingers to fins with sharks! Join us for the premiere of Shark Shallows, the Aquarium’s newest exhibit featuring a shark touch tank. Want to see this new exhibit even earlier? It pays to be an Aquarium member! Members can attend exclusive Shark Shallows preview events on May 7, prior to the Grand Opening. Become a member today to experience Shark Shallows first.

May 9- Lake Marion Paddle for Freshwater Mussels with NOA: a Members-only Event

1 – 4 p.m.
Embark on a paddling journey with a Professional Naturalist Guide in search of freshwater mussels. Take in breathtaking lakeside and island views as you learn how you can conserve the mussels native to our area. Ages 4 and up. $50 for ages 13 and over; $30 for ages 12 and under. May 10- Mother’s Day at the Aquarium

Moms, you’re invited to the South Carolina Aquarium this Mother’s Day! Mothers will enjoy complimentary admission with a paying guest or child. Enjoy a day filled with interactive family fun, unbeatable value and excitement for everyone. Mothers will be recognized during daily programs, including the popular interactive dive shows. This offer is valid on May 10 only and cannot be combined with any other offer.

May 18- The Summer’s End Release Party

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Looking for the perfect beach read to begin your Lowcountry summer? Join us for the official launch of The Summer’s End, author and conservationist Mary Alice Monroe‘s third installment of The Lowcountry Summer trilogy. Enjoy food, drinks and music at the Aquarium and secure your signed copy of this inspirational book by a New York Times best-selling author. Tickets to the event are $30 each or $35 with autographed book. A portion of book sales will benefit the Sea Turtle Rescue Program, and tours of the Sea Turtle Hospital will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. May 23- World Turtle Day

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Love turtles? We do! Pay homage to these diverse and amazing reptiles on World Turtle Day®. Join us for special turtle-themed activities including an art station, turtle education stations and visits with turtle patrol teams throughout South Carolina. These activities are included with membership or admission.

Take in a one-of-a-kind experience on this day by touring the Sea Turtle Hospital, the only sea turtle rescue facility in our state, at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. Tours are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call (843) 577-FISH (3474) to reserve your spot!
