Dora’s Aquarium Adventure: A Members-only Event

Just announced! Join the Aquarium staff for a members-only visit with Dora! Decorate a backpack and follow Map on an adventure through the South Carolina Aquarium! Bring your camera and take a picture with Dora! A members-only event. Tickets are $5 per member child (adults free with participating child). Reservations required. Space is limited.

Volunteer Orientation
Saturday, September 11, 2010 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Where: South Carolina Aquarium Classroom
From divers to Aquarium mascots, the South Carolina Aquarium’s Volunteer Program is comprised of hundreds of diverse, enthusiastic individuals who serve in a variety of positions and departments. Volunteers have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of visitors each day, reach into the discovery tank, assist visitors with aquatic animals or serve as an Aquarium Ambassador at a community event. Enthusiastic youth volunteers, ages 16 and older and interested in marine biology can volunteer as exhibit guides. These youth volunteers have the opportunity to work in the discovery lab and at interpretive carts and will learn more about marine biology as they engage Aquarium guests.

Special Guest Character Appearance: Dora the Explorer!

Join the South Carolina Aquarium for a mind, body and spirit-of-nature experience next to the calming backdrop of the Great Ocean Tank. Led by expert yoga instructor, Tej Thompson, all levels of yogis will enjoy this Kundalini Yoga of rhythmic movement and powerful breathing. Similar to interval training, each exercise lasts 2-4 minutes, demands high energy and maximum effort, followed by rest in quiet meditation, and calming effects. Yoga classes are priced as follows: Members - $10/class, or $35/4 classes or $70/8 classes. Non-Members - $15/class, or $55/4 classes, or $110/8 classes. Reservations required.

Our 1-3 year old friends will be introduced to sea creatures with up close animal encounters, dancing to fun music, story time and several play stations to choose from while adults enjoy complimentary coffee and muffins! Scary'um Aquarium

Tuck in with the Turtles: A Members-only Event

Where: South Carolina Aquarium
Do you ever wonder what sharks and sea turtles do when the rest of us are sleeping? Here is your chance to find out what goes on at the Aquarium after dark! On Friday, November 5, members are invited to join the South Carolina Aquarium for an overnight adventure at the Tuck in with the Turtles Family Sleepover! Families can set up sleeping bags next to their favorite Aquarium exhibit and rise to a dolphin watch on the Riverside Terrace. The cost is $30 per Aquarium member adult and $20 per Aquarium member child, ages 6 and up. Prices include fun kids’ educational programs and activities, snacks and a continental breakfast in the morning. The Aquarium requires one adult per two children attending this event. Space is limited and reservations are required.

A LowCANtry Holiday: featuring Scuba Santa

Sea Life by Starlight

Join the Aquarium’s young professional group, the Aquarium Alliance, for the first ever Sea Life by Starlight benefit event. From 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. float among festive décor and aquatic surroundings and enjoy holiday cocktails, delicious hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment while mingling with guests and participating in a live and silent auction. Funds from the event will go to the education and conservation efforts at the South Carolina Aquarium. Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of October and are $60 per person; members can purchase tickets at $50 each.

Explore your natural environment and collect a cool natural artifact or beach find such as fossils, shark teeth, shells, rocks and more.    Touch Tank Feeding: An Up-close Feeding Experience

 Help our staff and volunteers feed the horseshoe crabs, sea urchins and other animals that live in the Touch Tank.

   Animal Encounters: A Great Hall Live Animal Program

 You never know what you might see during this live animal program. Aquarium staff will help you learn about the featured creature of the day.


   It's Not All Black & White: A Penguin Feeding

   Great Ocean Experience! An Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tour

 Catch an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the South Carolina Aquarium. Discover how we feed over 6,000 animals each day. Check out where we test 45,000 gallons of water. Get an up close view of the top of our three-story tall Great Ocean Tank, featuring cool creatures including sharks, turtles, eels and more! Ticket prices are Adult: $10, Child: $5.
