green  (Chelonia mydas)

Stranding Location: South Core Banks, Lookout Bight, NC
Arrival Date: 12/13/2010
Age: juvenile
Weight: 5.06 kg (11.2 lb)

Case History
In an effort to help North Carolina facilities overwhelmed by a large number of cold-stunned sea turtles that stranded in early December, nine sea turtles were transferred to the SCA's Sea Turtle Hospital on 13 December 2010. Banks, a juvenile weighing 4.04 kg, is one of seven greens received from NC.

Treatment
Banks received injections of calcium gluconate and an antibiotic upon arrival, as well as fluids and vitamin B complex.

Updates
1/15/2011: Banks developed several small lesions on his carapace in the past week and is shedding keratin in an abnormal way. However, the lesions were easily debrided and we are hopeful this minor issue won't become more problematic in the coming weeks.
