green  (Chelonia mydas)

Stranding Location: Lookout Bight, NC
Arrival Date: 12/13/2010
Age: Juvenile
Weight: 4.02 kg (8.9 lb)

Case History
In an effort to help North Carolina facilities overwhelmed by a large number of cold-stunned sea turtles that stranded in early December, nine sea turtles were transferred to the SCA's Sea Turtle Hospital on 13 December 2010. Lewbart, a juvenile weighing 3.34 kg, is one of seven greens received from NC.

Treatment
Lewbart's physical examination revealed minor plastron abrasions, a cooler-than-normal cloacal temperature of 62.8 degrees Fahrenheit, and minor dehydration. In addition to fluids and antibiotics, Lewbart received vitamin B complex, calcium gluconate, blood work, and radiographs. Lewbart had no problem eating the yummy thread herring, mackerel, and smelt we offered him on 15 December and is recovering well.
