A Plus

The A+ Classroom Program is a paid program that can enhance your visit to the Aquarium. The A+ Program is a classroom programs with standards-based science lesson and up-close animal encounters. The programs are offered with discounted school group rates. We provide complimentary pre-visit and post-visit standards-based curriculum online for your visit. Program descriptions below:

Early Childhood

30 minutes
$3 per student + admission

Habitat Hunt: What elements do different animals need to survive? Find out when you meet a few of our animal friends that live here at the Aquarium. Hunt for clues about air, food, water and shelter to help match South Carolina species to their unique habitats.
  Madagascar Island Habitat: Swim, jump, or crawl your way through the colorful island of Madagascar. Learn about the island’s animals with an up-close encounter, where students could meet creatures like hissing cockroaches, tomato frogs, a Dumeril’s boa, and other unique island creatures.

K-2 Grade

60 minutes
$3 per student + admission

Habitat Adventures: South Carolina has a wide variety of habitats, but what makes a habitat a good place to live for an animal? Examine the habitats of South Carolina and the unique species that live in each one. Get a close-up look at how some of your favorite animals have adapted to their specific homes.  
 Adventures in Madagascar: Do cockroaches hiss? Why is a frog named after a vegetable? Investigate some of the world’s most unique species, from the world’s most diverse island, Madagascar. Come eye to eye and nose to nose with distant species and learn how they survive in this far away habitat.

3-5 Grade

Amazing Adaptations: Do alligators have solar panels? How does a snake eat prey three times the size of its head? Examine unique adaptations that allow animals to survive, and thrive, in their food chain.
  Madagascar Mysteries: Animal mysteries abound on the diverse island of Madagascar. From animals with sticky spit to animals that disappear into the ground, learn about the unique adaptations animals have acquired in order to survive in the Madagascar food chain.

Middle School

90 minutes
$7 per student + admission

E.S.I. – Environmental Scene Investigation: The test results are in, and the outlook is not good. Where did this contamination come from? Did someone make a fatal mistake? Run lab tests, examine case studies and analyze data to uncover who is to blame for an unexplained watershed contamination. Students become investigators in this environmental mystery and look for solutions to keep the watersheds of South Carolina clean.

High School

90 minutes
$7 per student + admission

Sea Turtle Emergency Room:
The call comes in your office; an injured sea turtle is in transit to your facility. As a sea turtle biologist, what do you need to do to ensure the turtle will survive? The pressure mounts as you examine x-rays, sift through fecal samples, run blood tests and observe external injuries. Help determine why this turtle washed ashore, the best treatment for this case, and how you can help prevent future strandings.
